USM Forged Strategic Alliance With Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta (UPNVJ)

Penang, Malaysia, March 23, 2023: For the record, Universiti Sains Malaysia announced strategic new partnerships on this day in a form of MoU with Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta (UPNVJ) at Vice Chancellor’s Office, Chancellery Building,USM for a period of three years.
Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta or UPN “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ), is a public university under the Ministry of Research and Technology, Indonesia, located in South Jakarta with separate campuses in Depok and Bogor. UPNVJ is a university established under the Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta Act 1967.
USM was represented by Prof. Dato’ Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed, FASc, Vice-Chancellor, and Prof. Dato’ Gs. Dr. Narimah Samat, Deputy Vice- Chancellor, Academic and International. UPNVJ was represented by Dr. Drs. Anter Venus, MA., Comm., Rector,and Dr. R. Dudy Heryadi, M.SI., Vice-Rector for Academic.
The primary focus of these partnerships will be on establishing collaboration and opportunities for development, support and enrichment in research, educational and training programs in the fields with mutual interest to all parties.
The agreements in this MoU include, subject to respective laws, constitution, regulations and/or policies from time to time in force, to endeavour to take necessary steps to promote, develop and establish research, education and training programs co-operation.

UPNVJ also affirmed their commitment for follow-up MoA for 1 year period with a recent Cooperation Visit to NAv6 on Friday, May 31, 2024. Apart from Prof. Dr. Ir. Supriyanto, S.T., M.Sc., IPM, as UPNVJ Dean, Faculty of Computer Science, UPNVJ Faculty of Computer Science delegation includes Erly Krisnanik, S.Kom., MM, Vice Dean for Academic, Ati Zaidiah, S.Kom, MTI., Vice Dean, Student Affairs And Cooperation, and Ika Nurlaili Isnainiyah, S.Kom., M.Sc., Coordinator of Sub-International Office. The objective of this MoA will be academic cooperation, involving exchange of faculty between respective organizational members for teaching, talks, seminar, etc., as well as guest lectures by staff of respective organizational members. The program began with a NAv6 Open Research & Collaboration Talk: My Experience @NAv6 by Prof. Dr. Ir. Supriyanto.

In this talk, as a NAv6 alumni, Prof. Dr. Ir. Supriyanto shared his experience on his postgraduate studies at NAv6. He did his M.Sc and PhD in Advance Computer Network at NAv6, USM from 2007 to 2010 and 2011 to 2015, respectively.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Supriyanto is currently a lecturer in the Informatics Department at the Universitas Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa (UNTIRTA). Since January 2024, he was appointed as Dean at the Faculty of Computer Science, UPNVJ. His research interest includes computer networks, IPv6 security, wireless communication, and smart farming.

The UPNVJ team was also involved in a separate community service program, coordinated by Erly Krisnanik, UPNVJ Faculty of Computer Science, in collaboration with Iznan Husainy Hasbullah, NAv6, with Pertubuhan Masyarakat Indonesia Pulau Pinang (PERMAI), and Persatuan Pelajar Indonesia Universiti Sains Malaysia (PPI USM), on Saturday, June 1, 2024. The program was intended to install and enhance digital literacy for the Society 5.0 era.

In the MoA discussion, focused as USMUPNVJ joint research and publication project with a 2-year duration, the following were proposed with some measureable output:

USM PIC will be Ir Ts Dr Lokman, Iznan and Assoc Prof Dr Selvakumar, while UPNVJ One promising candidate for another MoA would be PIC will be Ika Nurlaili and Prof Dr Ir Supriyanto.
This MoA will pave the way for future opportunities academic collaboration, such as lecturer and student exchanges, visiting professors, joint conferences and potential UPNVJ lecturers’ further studies in USM. One promising candidate for other MoAs would be research collaboration and Joint Community Program with PERMAI. For the agreed collaboration activities, the MoA will need to reflect mutually agreed financial commitment from both parties. These future MoAs will define a more detailed framework for the establishment of an academic and research cooperation between interested parties.
